Leora Lutz is a Toronto born writer, artist and educator that grew up in the eastern parts of Los Angeles before relocating to the San Francisco bay area in 2011.
Lutz’s personal ideology stems from the fruition of punk rock reasoning
and a life-long practice with the handmade—continually questioning the active role that art plays in shaping history. Her interdisciplinary practice is rooted in the writings of rebels who questioned the norms of their time, drawing inspiration from Zen poetry to Henry David Thoreau, Immanuel Kant to Hannah Arendt, Dorothy Parker to Samuel Beckett.
Her professional background spans over 20 years as an exhibiting artist, gallery/museum educator and administrator. Lutz is a published author of articles and essays about art, and writes for regional, national and global publications such as artslant, San Francisco Arts Quarterly and White Hot magazine. She also currently works as a Writing Consultant and guest lecturer for undergraduate and graduate art students at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Prior to CCA she worked with MOCA Contemporaries Los Angeles as Communications Co-Chair and for the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs as a special community engagement project coordinator and grant process facilitator.
She received both an MFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture and an MA in Visual and Critical Studies at California College of the Arts.
